he was walking home, when he heard the bus groaning to a stop at the bus stop.
he turned to look, and saw a girl in school uniform, walking back.
it couldn't be her, could it?
he quickened his steps, walking faster to the lift, and entered it.
just as his finger had pushed the button for his floor, she appeared.
apparently she had walked from behind.
he paused, and waited for her to enter, and took a step back.
she pressed the button for her own floor.
she lived 6 floors below him.
the lift doors closed.
they stood there, not talking to each other, but it was not an awkward silence either.
her breathing was slightly heavy.
had she walked faster just so she could catch up with him?
he felt little bubbles of warm happiness gurgling inside him.
they reached her floor, and she walked out.
he got to his own floor, and walked to his door.
but today he didn't press the door bell as he usually would have.
instead he took out his keys and opened the door,
because if he pressed the doorbell, he would have to say hello to whoever who opened the door,
and he was afraid that if he opened his mouth the little bubbles of happiness would disappear.
so he opened the door and stepped into the house, keeping the bubbles inside him, gurgling, gurgling away as he smiled to himself.
